In this first volume of memoirs, author
Steinbjørn B. Jacobsen vividly narrates how he grew up in a Faroese village
during the 30s, 40s and 50s.
However, he casts his net widely. He skips
back and forth in his life, relating much of what has happened in his adult
life to his youth, often recognizing and understanding the ballast from his
childhood, when he becomes an adult.
In his memoirs he states that childhood is
only short, measured in years, but its memories can still reach far, no matter
how small and insignificant they may seem.
