One day when Sophie comes home from school
she finds a letter in the mailbox. All the little note in the envelope says is
‘Who are you?’ Where does the world come from?’
This is the beginning of Sophie’s
philosophical adventure – from Socrates to Descartes, from Spinoza to Hegel,
Marx and Freud – along with the mysterious philosophy teacher, who refuses to
reveal his identity.
But this is not the only puzzle in the
book. Why is Sophie receiving Hilda’s mail? Who is Hilda? – and who is Sophie?
In order to solve these mysteries, Sophie
uses her newfound knowledge of philosophy, but the answer is far more
astonishing then she had thought.
