Tú upphavsins heimur begins with the legend of the white raven in Raven’s Gorge, who is both wise and murderous. Once he was a young man but because of his misdeeds he was sentenced to live in the darkness in Raven’s Gorge for all eternity. Ever since that time the white raven has been searching for people in order to suck the souls out of them in the hope that he will be released from the curse.
The novel deals with an unsavoury subject which has left a terrible mark on the the world in the 20th century: fascism. The novel describes what humans are capable of doing to each other under pressure. As in this case where the village Leirun is on the verge of moving from isolation into an uncertain, changing future. Just as the change is happening the ravens appear and that means that danger is coming.
