Huckleberry Finn is completely neglected in
his home village. A kind-hearted widow takes him in and tries her best to
civilize him, but he cannot stand her and escapes to a sand island in the Mississippi
river. That is where he meets Jim, the black slave, who has escaped. They build
a raft and together they sail down the river, in the hope of finding freedom
and a decent life.
This is a classic novel and it is very
funny. It is also a good description of the conditions black people endured at
that time in the American South.
